Overwhelmingly, 68% of all participants answered, "Maintain staff levels."

Overwhelmingly, 67% of all participants answered, "We do not pay any relocation expenses."

  • May, 2010: With July 4th on a Sunday this year, what is your organization's closure plan?

Fifty-three organizations responded to our May Dollars & Sense poll which asked: With July 4th falling on Sunday this year, what is your organization’s closure plan?  Following is a summary of the responses:

  • 2% - Are closing Friday, July 2nd
  • 83% - Are closing Monday, July 5th
  • 15% - Have no holiday closure planned

Overwhelmingly, all who participated in the poll answered "No, we do not have a formal written or unwritten (understood) gambling policy."


  • March, 2010: What is your organization's compensation policy?

Seventeen organizations responded to our March Dollars & Sense poll regarding compensation policies. Following is a summary of the responses:

  • 65% - No written compensation policy
  • 24% - Policy published and distributed to all employees
  • 5.5% - Policy written and kept confidential
  • 5.5% - Policy written and made available to all employees

Eighteen organizations responded to our February Dollars & Sense poll regarding guidelines for social networking sites/applications. Following is a summary of the responses:

  • 61% - Yes, guidelines address both business and personal use
  • 17% - No guidelines
  • 11% - Yes, guidelines address business use only
  • 11% - No guidelines, but considering

Ten organizations responded to our January Dollars & Sense poll regarding pay for employees called for active military duty. Following is a summary of the responses:

  • 0% full pay or full pay for a period of time, then the difference between full and military pay
  • 10% the difference between full pay and military pay
  • 10% other payment plan
  • 80% no established program

  • December, 2009: What is the minimum workweek for part-time employees to be eligible for health insurance coverage?

Nineteen organizations responded to our December Dollars & Sense poll regarding part-time employees and health insurance eligibility. Following is a summary of the responses:

  1. 11% = Less than 25 hours per week.
  2. 11% = 25-30 hours per week.
  3. 46% = 31-35 hours per week.
  4. 16% = More than 35 hours per week.
  5. 16% = No health coverage for part-time employees.

  • November, 2009:  What is your organization doing regarding holiday closures with December 25th and January 1st falling on consecutive Fridays?

Thirty-two organizations responded to our November Dollars & Sense poll regarding 2009 holiday closures on consecutive Fridays. Following is a summary of the responses:

Manufacturing

  1. 27% will be closed December 25th and January 1st, and remain open December 24th and 31st.
  2. 10% will be closed December 24th, 25th and January 1st, and close early December 31st.
  3. 27% will be closed December 25th and January 1st, and close early December 24th and 31st.
  4. 18% will be closed December 24th, 25th, 31st and January 1st.
  5. 18% have no plans for holiday closures, or have other unspecified plans.

  1. 24% will be closed December 25th and January 1st, and remain open December 24th and 31st.
  2. 33% will be closed December 24th, 25th and January 1st, and close early December 31st.

  4. 19% will be closed December 24th, 25th, 31st and January 1st.
  5. 10% have no plans for holiday closures, or have other unspecified plans.

  • October, 2009:  Are employees permitted to take time off to volunteer for community service?

Eighteen responses were received for the October Dollars & Sense poll regarding permission for employees to take time off for volunteer purposes. Following is a summary of the responses:

  • 39% of the respondents indicated they do not permit workers to take time off to volunteer.

  • 61% of the respondents indicated they do permit workers to take time off to volunteer. Of these: 11% permit workers to take 20 hours or less per year unpaid; 17% permit workers to take 20+ hours per year unpaid; 6% permit workers to take 20 hours or less per year paid; and 28% permit workers to take 20+ hours per year paid.

  • September, 2009:  Do you permit employees to listen to personal audio devices while performing their jobs?

Fifty-two responses were received for the September Dollars & Sense poll regarding personal audio devices in the workplace. Following is a summary of the responses:

  • Production, Maintenance, Warehouse, Laborers, etc.: 46% permit workers to listen to personal audio devices while working (includes 21% who said yes within specific guidelines); 54% do not allow use of personal audio devices while working.

  • Administrative, Management, Technical, Professional, etc.: 79% permit workers to listen to personal audio devices while working (includes 25% who said yes within specific guidelines); 21% do not allow use of personal audio devices while working.

  • August, 2009:  How many paid holidays does your company provide to non-union employees per year?

Seventy responses were received for the August Dollars & Sense poll regarding how many paid holidays employers provide to non-union employees per year. While only 1% of the respondents provided 0-3 paid holidays per year, 10% provided 4-5, 37% provided 6-7, 27% provided 8-9, and 24% of the respondents provided 10+ paid holidays per year. Although employers in Oregon are not obligated to provide employees any paid days off, on average the survey respondents provide 7-9 paid days.
